Go for Growth
September is an interesting month. With roughly 107 days left in the year, I subconsciously try to recall everything I've completed. The old me would make a list (lies: I still write lists) of seemingly meaningful accomplishments that validate my existence. However, this year feels a bit different. For once, I haven't been chasing a victory. I didn't really care about illustrating transformational impact for the masses because the truth is I've been tired.
I began 2022 by telling my boss that I wasn't reaching for anything beyond meeting expectations performance-wise, and I meant that. Instead, I wanted to relish meaningful moments that would inspire me to grow organically. Without setting a hard and fast goal, I could go with the flow and experience new skills while sitting in discomfort. I could learn new theories in the classroom without totally understanding how best to apply them to my work immediately, and oh yeah, I could pause Freely Adorned (selling-wise) to reimagine the story I wanted to tell.
Toxic phrases like hustle, grind, and repeat holds no space here. I'm firmly planted, and it's me against me. I challenge you to check in with yourself. What feelings rise to the surface if you sit silently for 60 seconds, honoring your breath? What do you need to be present with you? When we give ourselves time to be present with ourselves, you'd be surprised to hear, feel, and see what you need. Growth in any space of your being is still very much possible. There's still time.
Plot twist, the reward is growth.
